I’m a list-a-holic! I have lists and lists and lists for every aspect in my life – products I want to make, tasks to build up my little shop, books I want to read or have read, blog post ideas, weekly chores of life and our apartment, websites to checkout, things to buy, daily to do’s and it goes on and on.
I have lists on pieces of paper, post-it notes, in my journal and planner. Looking through my planners from years past, it’s amazing to see how ambitious I was but also sad that I’ve failed to complete the goals I’d set out for myself. Most items on those lists were never crossed off, especially the difficult ones. Look back at those lists, I may not want to do those things at this point because my ideals and wants have changed but just knowing that I wanted to and didn’t – makes me a little heart broken.
What can I do differently now to make things happen?
For the new year, I’ll be using the 2016 Your Best Year by Lisa Jacobs as my guide. It’s a productivity workbook and a creative business planner. If you want to learn more about it, you can find it here and there’s also a video about it.
The greatest things I took from it were the amazing tips on planning, setting goals, monthly and quarterly reviews and the insightful questions to ask yourself – something I’ve never done before!
I would so often just wing it. So after absorbing everything from the workbook (within a week – it was that good!), I’ve set out my goals and planned the whole year for my little handmade business and life.
It’s a road map for projects and life improvements. As I move along the path, learning and growing, I’ll gain insight on the things that work and don’t. Now with monthly reviews, answering in-depth questions, I can re-evaluate my goals, make changes to my routine or habits and always plan ahead.
How are you going to make 2016 your best year?
