I’ve been a self hosted WordPress user since 2007, and honestly, I don’t know anything else. It has served me well. I never had the need to try any other blogging platform. How about you? Are you a WordPress user?
There are so many tools available – plugins, they call them. You can search the plugin directory for whatever you need. If you realize, after testing it out that it wasn’t right for you, all you do is deactivate and delete. Simple! Then, you can try another. It is important to know that having too many plugins will slow down your site – so choose wisely! Make each one count :)
Here are my 8 WordPress plugins that I use on this site:
Akismet
It protects your blog from comment and trackback spam.
BackUpWordPress
Automates backups of your WordPress. It’s very simple to setup. You can choose database only, files only or both. You can schedule your back ups to occur hourly, weekly, biweekly, monthly or do it manually.
Duplicate Post
Clone and copy posts. This one comes in handy when you have a weekly series. Just clone and delete what’s not needed and keep what is. Easy!
Jetpack by WordPress.com
This one is jam packed with a bunch of features. Publicize posts automatically, post/comment notifications, stats, activate infinite scrolling, etc. There’s so much that I don’t even think I use everything!!
WordPress Editorial Calendar
This one’s an absolute must have. It’s an easy way to manage your posts. You can see all your posts and drag and drop them all in one place. Great tool for scheduling!!
WordPress Related Posts
Shows related posts at the end of your content. You can actually customize the selection. I use to use linkwithin but this one is much more sophisticated.
WordPress SEO
Is an all-in-one SEO manager, includes content analysis and much more. It’s good to have SEO reminders before you publish a post.
WP Google Fonts
Allows for more font styles on your site – you can use any Google font.
